Dent Renovation Work August 1 - 5, 2011

Monarc Construction continued progress in several areas this week. All of the light fixtures are now off the ceilings, several new footings have been dug through the Level 1 floor, and the elevator pit is impressive.

New this week is shoring, or the support of the existing structure so that the construction company can demolish the interior walls. This temporary scaffolding and iron work braces the walls and supports the ceilings during the renovation process.

The most dramatic scaffolding is in the center core. This scaffolding and iron beams support the bearing walls perpendicular to the front of the School.

3. Level 3 Restrooms. Monarc pierced the walls for the steel supports that, in conjunction with the scaffolding, is the fulcrum to provide temporary support for the bearing wall.

4. The other side of the wall from Picture 3. Note the two holes below the steel I bars -- this is where permanent steel beams will go to support the new floor. The two windows were over Jeff's and my desks. If you look closely you can see the plugs for our computers!

5. Prekindergarten classroom. Another temporary support. This brace will bear the load while the arched brick is removed from the prekindergarten classroom.
